Ancient India

The Indian subcontinent is home to one of the world's most ancient and varied civilisations. New arrivals and invasions brought waves of new people with fresh ideas and ways of life, and as a result India has a rich and and diverse life.

In 1920 archeologists found the remains of two ancient Indian cities near the Indus River. Dating back as far as 2600 BC, these cities called Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa had lasted for nearly a thousand years. This culture declined after 1700 BC and no one is sure why.
