Murray, Les (1938-2019)

Les Murray has been acknowledged internationally as one of the most gifted Australian poets.  However, he has also proved a controversial figure, whose poetry strayed  across the boundaries of political and cultural debate.  The dedication Murray made in all of his books is 'to the glory of God'.

Matthews, Steven. Les Murray. Melbourne University Press, 2001.

The Meaning of Existence

Everything except language knows the meaning of existence.

Trees, planets, rivers, time know nothing else. They express it moment by moment as the universe.

Even this fool of a body lives it in part, and would have full dignity within it but for the ignorant freedom of my talking mind.
